Saxony offers excellent universities throughout the country covering differentiated fields of studies and degrees. There are

  • four universities (amongst them the Dresden University of Technology , University of Excellence),
  • five art academies,
  • five universities of applied science,
  • the University of Cooperative Education in Saxony,
  • nine officially recognised universities run by private or ecclesiastical organisations,
  • sixteen Fraunhofer institutes,
  • six Max Planck institutes,
  • six Leibniz institutes, and
  • four institutions of the Helmholtz community.

Being multifaceted and structurally well-equilibrated the research landscape in Saxony is excellently positioned. Scientists in the Free State do research in the fields of microelectronics, nanotechnology, mechanical engineering, vehicle construction, materials science, biotechnology, and others.
